Saving the universe one city at a time. San Diego, you're next.
GEEKS! THE MUSICAL follows the adventures of a gaggle of geeks through the San Diego Comic Book/Sci-Fi Convention. Geek boy, Jordan, is on the search for Batman issue #92, but stumbles upon Kerry, the geek girl of his dreams. In the meantime, his best friend and Doctor Who fanatic, Chip, offers to distract Kerry’s friend, Emerson, a gay man with impossibly high standards. But a series of miscommunications has Jordan believing that Kerry was stolen from him by his childhood hero, Mel Tyler, a has-been sci-fi actor. Meanwhile, Audrina the Goth girl and her best friend Trey attempt to sell their avant-garde comic. All this while they sing, dance and geek out!
GEEKS! was written by Thomas J. Misuraca and workshopped in pieces at FirstStage LA. The first draft was stage read at FirstStage under the direction of Bennett Cohon. After Ruth Judkowitz was attached as composer, there were two more readings at Write Act Repertory to hone the music and script. Impressed with early reactions, Write Act Artistic Manager, John Lant, produced the show in March 2012. It was a great success, breaking Write Act's box office records, garnishing great reviews, and selling out almost every show. Write Act remounted it in June of 2012, with the addition of Rocco Vitacco as musical arranger. From there, John Lant took GEEKS! to Write Act Eastside and produced it off-off-Broadway in October 2012.
Mr. Misuraca will visit the production in San Diego sometime later this summer.

What is the running time of 'GEEKS! The Musical!'?
The show runs approximately 90 minutes. There is no intermission.
What should I wear to the show?
Whatever makes you most comfortable. We're a casual environment. But, if you decide to come in your favorite costume, you may just have an even more amazing time!
Where should I park?
There are six pay parking lots within a block or two of the theater. They range from $3-5 most nights. There is also plenty of street parking (free after 6pm) in Hillcrest, but give yourself a few minutes to find your perfect spot!
How else can I get there?
A cab into Hillcrest takes less than 10 minutes from downtown or Mission Valley. You can split a cab and likely only pay a few dollars each way. You can also plan a trip on public transportation by clicking on this San Diego MTS Trip Planner. If you're feeling up to it, a 25-30 minute picturesque walk from either downtown or Mission Valley will get you to the theater in fighting shape. Pick your favorite!
Is there food or other things to do nearby?
Hillcrest is a nightlife jewel in San Diego. Restaurants, music, bars, clubs, dessert spots, you name it -- Hillcrest has it. Here's a link to some of the available nightlife options in our neighborhood. HIllcrest is also one of the safest walking neighborhoods in town. Or at least we think so.
Where are you located?
Please see the map above: 3704 Sixth Avenue, San Diego, CA. 92103. We are on the North East corner of 6th and Pennsylvania Avenues at BLKBOX Theatre which is run by San Diego's cutting-edge company, ion theatre.
What is the age-appropriateness of the show?
Well, that's tough. People have different standards for different things. But there is some coarse language -- a few strong words. And we really do mean a few. No nudity, violence or adult situations, really. It's all language. If GEEKS! were a movie, it would probably rate a PG-13.
What is the best way to secure tickets?
Online. GEEKS! The Musical! has a virtual box office and most everything is done online. If you want to buy tickets, click on the tab above for Schedule and Tickets, pick your show and purchase. Brown Paper Tickets does a great job of keeping fees very, very low, so don't worry about inflating the budget. You can also buy tickets at the door beginning one half-hour prior to curtain. The box office accepts cash only at the door. There is a bank and ATM immediately next door to the theater.
